Can 60-66 lock out hub mechanisms be put on later axles?

As the headline says...

I've got a '62 K10 that I want to update with a newer front axle (open knuckle, disc brakes), but I love the look of the early lock-outs.

Can the earlier ones be fitted to later axles without a bunch of machining?

Interested too! I put 70's vintage axles under my 52 and just not happy with the wimpy looking hubs. Once some other things are off my plate I'll look into it deeper if you don't find a solution.
