1975 Chevy K5 Blazer

Hi all, thought I'd show you my project I got back in November. It's a 1975 Chevy K5 Blazer full convertible. When I got it, it had a ridiculous lift and 8 lug 1 ton axles with huge rims and tires. So we have switched the axles out for 1/2 ton, and are throwing the original style rims on it. Doors are in the back. Thing was beaten; for example: steering wheel held up by wires, terrible plate welding job, ...etc. Topper didn't come with it. Here are some before pics. And yes, in the background is just one of my dad's custom crew cab short box 4x4 1/2 tons. Has like 5 he made.

Re: 1975 Chevy K5 Blazer

Here is how it sits as of right now. The 1/2 ton axles are under it, and it has a topper. The rear seat pictured I plan on using is out of a 69-72 Blazer/Burb, but I think it's the same thing pretty much. Whoever had it before me threw it together; that's why it has different emblems and random parts missing. Has a rebuilt Edelbrock carb; the tires on it are BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A. The grille is out because it needs major repair; the thing is about to snap. Here are pics:

We took the AC out; full of sand. It's shot; I think I'm gonna run it without air. Took some of the lift off of it; might take more. More pics:

Pictures of the gauges. My dad has a tachometer cluster gauge I want to throw in. Even more pics:

Re: 1975 Chevy K5 Blazer

What I was thinking about doing with this monster is make it an SS-style K5 Blazer. Since the grille is busted, I might use a different grille. Classic Industries has the SS dash emblem, rear quarter emblems, and K5 fender Emblems that all go together nicely. I also have a cowl hood on my Blazer, and a 75ish Camaro steering wheel to use. I think I may go with black interior. I was going to piant the Blazer Hyper Blue Metallic I think, and maybe black stripes?

Any suggestions are welcome; I am not totally sure what I want to do with this thing. I may not even do an SS. Here are some pics:

Re: 1975 Chevy K5 Blazer

Here is an SS truck; kinda what I'm looking for, but I don't think I want the SS logo and the billet grille combo. I thought about doing a 75-76 or a 77-79 grille blacked out with the chrome strips in them.

I think I want to put a tailgate band on my Blazer. I was thinking about blacking it out (pic is one off a 70s Chevy Truck, not a 70s Chevy Blazer).

Re: 1975 Chevy K5 Blazer

Here are some pics of the cowl hood I put on my Blazer. Bought it from a friend for $200. Needs sanding and painting, but overall nice. My wheels are also pretty cool; stock rally rims with 31" BFGs. And then there's a pic with them on my Blazer. Also, A Camaro steering wheel I'm gonna try and rob off of my dad's 1974 K5 Blazer.

Re: 1975 Chevy K5 Blazer

Progress has been a little slow... We finally bled the brakes; I had to get a new proportioning valve (it still had the original one on it). About $60 for a solid brass one I believe.

I also added turn signals and tail lights to this beast; they were missing off of it when we got it. Changed out my clear parklights for some amber ones; bulbs are cheaper this way.

Bought a tilt steering column for my truck off craigslist for $100. Tore steering column apart; have to go through and rebuild it. Whoever had it last got dirt/grime throughout the whole steering column inside; didn't know until we started taking it apart.

Here's some action poses of my blazer . Still need to hook gas tank back up, and a lot of other things. Slowly becoming my daily driver...

Re: 1975 Chevy K5 Blazer

Also in process of getting a 1975/76 grille. The one I have needs a lot of work. Looking for a 350 emblem for this style grille. Mine originally came with it, and I would like to put one back in. If anyone has one, please let me know. I believe this is the correct style emblem for mine. Looking for one of driver's quality; this truck isn't going to be a beater. Thanks
