Looks like I'm joining the heavy haulers club!

When a friend said, "So a guy's giving me a '67 Chevy dump truck" I perked up, and a couple days later it looks like the deal is sealed to trade him a Lincoln LS my in-laws bought my wife (before I met her) with blown head gaskets, for a '67 C50 single-axle dump truck. 2 bbl. 327 (not the original) backed up by a 4+2 setup. Been sitting about five years after the water pump started leaking and the charging system failed soon after, but I have my fingers crossed for an easy revival. Comes with a title, too. Now to just work out the logistics of getting the Lincoln to him and the dump truck back here - from 450 miles away. Anybody got something big and heavy they'll pay handsomely to have hauled across the Miss'sip?

That's a good looking truck, too bad it's so far away.

Re: Looks like I'm joining the heavy haulers club!

Yep, but for just the money it needs in parts I'd be a fool to pass it up. I've been trying to get rid of the Lincoln for 2 years and would have to take <$600 for it, which I just can't swallow. If I work the bugs out of the truck and sell it I'll come out a lot better than that, and if I can keep it it'll certainly get put to use. Myself and plenty of friends have gravel driveways, wood stoves, etc.

No telling what it will become if I have my way - stay a dump, 4x4 conversion, wrecker, flatbed, crew cab trailer hauler. So many possibilities.

Being a small block, is it likely the 4-speed tranny is a SM420/465/NP435? Or will it be a bigger unit?

my Guess is that being a small block with a 4 speed and the age ... it likely has a 465 ...however many 60's ( never messed about with the 50's much ) came with much larger 5 speeds Clarks and spicers

Re: Looks like I'm joining the heavy haulers club!

ApacheIvan, some of those big pickups are really cool but if I was going to do something non-utility with it I'd probably lean toward a crew cab idea with a 5th wheel or CCSB idea. The side body profile shouldn't be too far off from a Suburban so utilizing parts of a 'Burb body might be fun. That idea with a Detroit or Duramax in front of a 10 or 13 speed transmission would be one heck of a family camper tow rig. :O
