Why do you have to get the primer off the tailgate.
Possible answer primer attracts water and even lets it through. If that's the case how long should primer be on before its painted over.

I won't throw the bumper away. It's not like the "dealer bumpers" that most trucks had around here.

Maybe I should have said, "paint the primer area". It will be harder to touch the area up than doing a good paint job. I have NOS moldings, but I will use used trim.

We found them at a military surplus place in Arizona. The world wide web you know. lol

I watched the parts section of this site, CL and ebay, but was always a day late and dollar short.
