Question Rack & Pinion in my 74.....

Ok after a bunch of reasearching I'm going to do the 1 1/2" crossmember drop and possibly the Frame Z as well. I'd like to convert to a Power rack and pinion as well. Who sells one for our trucks? I figure if I replace all my tie rods and and steering box it would cost close what a rack costs, unless they are really expensive. I searched the forum for rack & pinion but didn't find anyone that mentioned where to get them. Any info would help and pictures of them installed. Thanks! Happy Holidays.

I saw a R&P conversion mentioned here a year or so ago. As I recall, it was available from just one place, and it was expensive.

Check out Jim Meyer for a complete bolt in IFS kit for our trucks with the R/P.

Look through the suspension forum for info. I believe a board member was gearing up to produce a-arms & R&P set-ups that are similar in construction to what Turner Enterprises used to offer.

Look through any crossmember threads or any threads related to 'Z-ing' the frame.

Re: Rack & Pinion in my 74.....

I think he is a little more pricier than FatMans Kit, I talked with a couple years back, dint real care to much about his attitude. Dont know about his qaulity, he was probally the first one that came out with a bolt in kit for our trucks. Fatmans bolt in Kit complete is about $2800 shipped. includes everything except brake lines, and stearing linkage to the rack and motor mounts. He will also give you I believe any bolt pattern you want. He as well has other options like brake upgrades etc.

Re: Rack & Pinion in my 74.....

I called Jim Meyer about two months ago about their kit and I believe the price was $4500, +/- a couple hundred. I do know it was at least $4k. Doesn't have nice brakes on it or anything, must be made of gold I guess.

Re: Rack & Pinion in my 74.....

My latest Jim Meyers catalog said $3200 for the Chevy truck 'bolt-in' IFS kit. W/options + shipping it might make it to 4K.
