Re: Slot lovers unite!

I have started restoring mine, turned out really well just a PITA and very time consuming.

Started with 200grit wet worked upto 2000 grit wet.. trick was to keep the wheel wet at all times, after the pitting/burrs were removed and sanded out smooth, hit them with 2 different polishing compounds, after letting them sit for 2weeks (dry/moisture free) I took them in and had them coated properly.

I will try and get pictures , don't have a digital camera.. maybe its time to get with the age of technology.. lol.

Re: Slot lovers unite!

If they aren't too damaged then start hitting them with the mothers. Remember, a little bit goes a LONG way. Rub the crap out of it until it turns as black as you can get it and then start buffing it off with a clean terry cloth.

If they are damaged then follow deaol's advice above. But make sure you finish with at least 1600 or 2000 like he did before you try to polish.

I prefer to do it by hand but you can use a mothers powerball or mini powerball

I ordered some new ones from Summit. I think they were Western Wheel brand though. They just had a WW on them.

200? I'm a little scared that will be too harsh. I guess if you're working up to 2000 it will take out any scratches you put in with 200.

100 then 320 then 1000wet then powerball. They were rough to start with, and had a lot of pitting. But they polished up to a near mirror finish.

Re: Slot lovers unite!

So far..

-scrubbed with green side of sponge and soapy water to get easy dirt grass off of
-sprayed with eagle one etching mag cleaner scrubbed with sponge again most everything was off by now but if you looked close you could still see dirt in them..(black spots)
-sprayed a lil mag etching cleaner and scrubbed inside and out with red sponge pad (forgot the name)

washed em clean heres where they are now:

edit, what are other options for the centercaps can I restore em (blast paint/or blast powdercoat or would it look crappy

Re: Slot lovers unite!

I would say just order some new center caps from your favorite brand or get some bullet center caps and go old school.

These are bullet covers.
http://www.oldbug.com/09-14-08%20072.jpg

The cursive A could be Ansen considering the age of these wheels.

BTW, I'm only a year ahead of you, 18.
