Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

I have a 1978 GMC Royal Sierra. I agree with an earlier comment that this is not really a special edition as much as a marketing option. It has listed on the SPID as "Bonanza Package C" and Sierra Grande equipment. It is not loaded, but does have a/c, cruise, ps, pb, automatic.

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

Thought I would add a pic of a pickup thats been in our family since 1976. My dad bought this 76 GMC brand new from the dealer. While my brother still has it, it has none of the original decals anymore. Notice the flares on the back wheel wells, front end and roof. Sorry for the poor photos but the only pics of it in original condition besides the add ons (rollbar, etc) my bro had added. Was a head turner in its day, had a 400 engine and full time 4x4 which it still has today. We always called it the spirit of 76 but don't think it was an actual "spirit" truck that has been mentioned.

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

I want to add that I posted this because I'm pretty sure this was some kind of special edition, so thought I would add it. If it wasn't and i'm clogging up this thread with just some kind of conversion pickup, that wasn't my intent.
I was young when the pickup was new so I don't remember the specifics about it. The decals and flares were on it when it was new.
Was just curious if anyone had seen something similar to this model before.

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

I don't think anyone will complain about people posting up truck pictures. That truck has the decals, flares and ducktail spoiler that were in the "Impact '76" brochure. Look here:

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

Thanks guys. Elgracho thanks for the link! Thats it for sure.
Bro still has the flares and spoilers and thinks he still has many pics of the stripes someplace in his house as he took them realizing he may want to restore it someday. I'm going to show him the brochure you linked to me. Today its just all white and he uses it daily on the farm.
While I was young, I can still remember the day dad brought it home and parked it in the driveway. My brothers and I were starstruck,we had never seen anything like that in our small ND town before. It got both my older brothers thru high school and plenty of dates even though they were both goofy looking...
By the time it was to be handed to me, late 80's, the decals were all cracked up and she had lost its luster so dad got it back and I found a 83 k5 blazer that managed to get me some dates also.

3+3 means it can have 3 passengers in the front and 3 passengers in the rear

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

Nope
Nothing special.
Bench seat front and rear.
There were also "bonus cab" crew cabs that didn't have a rear seat and camper special (had a teepee emblem), I'm not sure what all they came with.

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

I found this old thread while looking for info on a spirit of 76. I found this one for sale locally and wish I wasn't building a house this spring. I wouldn't mind picking it up.

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

The ad says it's badged "spirit of 76". I have not looked at it personally but with the description of blue and white paint scheme earlier in the post it more than likely is what he says it is.

Here it is the 1976 Indy 500 pace truck!!!My Dad bought this truck in 1976 right after the Inianapolis 500. This photo was taken right when he got it home from the delership. It was used at the track and had a few hundred miles on it at the time.

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

sooo im from way up here in Canada eh, the wranglers were pretty cool, all they really were was a Scottsdale package on a GMC. they had a special paint job on them as well as a special hood ornament and i think a couple different little things in the interior, there's still a few of them kicking around up here actually. you can likely find more info on Google no problem. anyyyyyways i have to go down to timmies and get me a double double and head to the beer store for some molson before hockey, cool thread though eh

Re: Looking for info/owners of special edition trucks

I have 2 Gentleman Jim trucks. One is a family truck that's been passed down since it was a year old and my grandfather got a hold of it, and the other I just picked up from down in New Mexico for the right price of $800. Rebuilt the old quadra-jet and put a new distributor on it and it runs like a top. It's been sliced-and-diced apart though by previous owners, since the floor mats, bucket seats, tilt column, am/fm 8-track and hood are all missing or not original, and a lot of the interior was cut up for a "modern" sound system, which I will have to fix. I have replacement floor mats for it, and a new-ish tilt column on the way for it, but I'm always on the lookout for those other specific parts. Those darned bucket seats are nearly impossible to find since they have a special rectangular metal piece in the middle of the upper back.
