Floor shift conversion questions?

I have a 81' floor shift 4 speed (tranny went) that I'm going to swap a sm326 into from an 82' column shift truck because I have it. I have the column shifter and can use it if I rebuild it but was thinking of keeping it floor shifted. Now I can't come close to justifying $400-$500 on a shifter and shift kit. Just seems outrageous to me but I can't find anyone but hurst that makes the parts unless I luck out at the junkyard. Does anyone know where to find a more reasonably priced kit or have any tips on building one from scratch? I don't have a problem with the column shift but the column I have is in ruff shape to say the least.

Re: Floor shift conversion questions?

You want a cheap but good shifter then look for one for a 4 speed Muncie or Saginaw.
I used a completion plus 4 speed shifter on the stock 3 gear in my 56 Chevy once.
Should be able to find one for a 100 bucks. Might need a few mods to bolt it up.
