did a compression test

on my 454 and all the numbers are within 98 and 125. it seems kinda low to me? the cam is the "rv" cam so i wouldnt think it'd bleed it down much... im trying to chase everything down after runing a tank of watered down gas through it. the oil smells like gas and everything

Re: did a compression test

You might have a bad fuel pump letting gas get in the oil. Or it's running rich. The thinned down oil could be causing the low compression readings.

Get yourself a one-gallon plastic gas jug, hang it from the open hood, run a gas line down to the carburetor and prime the line - start that baby up and confirm that it's not the fuel pump first.

Re: did a compression test

it'll still start but once its runing its... terrible to say the least. im going to redo the entire fuel system just cause i know that tank is rusty and im sure the lines between it and the pump are too. ive got a new fuel pump ready to go when everything else gets done. i just am wanting to make sure the engine isnt damaged. its still got the bad gas in it so i dont expect it to run to good yet. its still about 2-3 weeks from when i can start really workin on it
