Replace the fire wall pad or not?

Do I need to weld the holes up that hold the fire wall pad on?
I was thinking of putting in lizard skin and/or dynamat, and not replacing
the factory style fire wall pad. Any thoughts?

You dont need to weld the holes. you could just use rubber plugs and spray the lizard skin or dynamat right over them. its a personal preference. if your smoothing the fire wall then weld away.

I'm doing a frame off restoration, and I'm shaving holes already so I think I'll not use the jute firewall pad and stick with the lizard skin.

On a restoration I would think it looked very odd to delete the firewall pad. I can understand the dynomat or lizard skin vs the floor insulation but the firewall pad is visible from inside the cab. I say replace it with a new one and keep the holes.

My personal preference is for a clean, stock look on a 4wd K5 so I'd replace the pad, which you can do so from from Wes Hepp (Classic Heartbeat) and get the rubber plugs - we can thank him for having these plugs reproduced and he supplies other dealers like LMC. Good luck with the build.

Iv'e already gotten the jute pads and plugs, but had second thoughts about using them and having the rubber plugs sticking out. Now I'm thinking about shaving the holes and just gluing the pad on.
By the way Deadhead, your K20 is off the hook. I'd love to have that thing.
