Engine/Tranny SWAP 216/4spd to 292/5spd 1948 chevy pickup

Just bought the 48 and would like to update to a 292 straight 6 with a later model 5spd tranny. Any suggestions, pointers, or otherwise positive feedback will be greatly appreciated. Please keep your criticism to yourself. Thanks

Nice body! Excellent find!
Shouldn’t be hard to do. Make some side mounts for the motor and a new tranny mount. You’ll need to remove the bell housing mount.
What newer tranny you looking at?

I did a 50 about 25 years ago and we had to do some fire wall work due to the new 6 was longer and taller. We did not want to cut the front and move the radiator and wanted to keep the four blade fan.

Thinking a T5.

T5 will work. You could even bolt one up to your 216.
And a 235 would bolt in too. Lots of speed parts for a 235.

Perhaps not!
There’s adaptors for that too.
But likely a good idea to swap out the complete drivetrain.

Patrick’s has one for a newer 4 speed.

I saw a thread on the HAMB about the 5 speed. Can’t find it now. I’ll search some more.
