Re: Auto body filler
I've found Evercoat to be good stuff and Napa's products are good to. I am a novice hobbyist when it comes to bodywork who works on a tighter budget.
If you look enough you will find prices range from cheap to ridiculous on bodywork materials...so long as you are not getting sold something at a ripoff price that is less expensive elsewhere on the open market...the saying "you get what you pay for" holds true. A lot of people's preferences seem to be based on what they have gotten used to and/or used for the last several years. My local parts store supplies the multiple body shops in the area and you can find body filler there in gallon cans from about $20 to $75. I picked the one that fit my budget and expect it to work fine. The main thing to remember is that it is usually the application of the putty that causes it to fail. The money you pay for the high end stuff is likely going to be a time saver rather than an improved end result. I have more time than money for my projects so I stay in the mid to low range of product costs.

Re: Auto body filler
I do not use a glaze I work my filler down to 180 grit and then I use slick sand or Featherfill as I have had some diebacks using a glaze slick sand is a high build and has no shrinkage

Re: Auto body filler
What grit are you using to sand the Featherfill?

180 or 220 depending on the part and how much material I put on there then 320 and finish with 600

Re: Auto body filler
Yep and be sure to use a guide coat each time you switch to a finer grit so you don’t leave sandpaper scratches from the previous gr

I use evercoat in my shop, the exact product depends on what it's being used for.

Re: Auto body filler
I'm late to the party here. But, Marson was the best. They were bought and now labeled by 3M. I don't know if they changed the formula since, so I haven't bought any. I switched to Evercoat rage ultra and it is good, but I'd prefer to go back to Marson. Marson is smoother, easier to sand and less pinholes.
