Re: Cheap cheap bed floors??

Grumpy-I Saw a 66 long bed with TREX decking (the plastic boards) and chrome strips that looked really nice. I am planning on using that for my 64 shortbox. Use your router just like on wood.

Re: Cheap cheap bed floors??

So, an 8' sheet of plywood is long enough?

That's what I did. 2 sheets exterior grade split in the middle. Longbed needs 9 foot sheets

Re: Cheap cheap bed floors??

Are you asking about a shortbed or a longbed? IIRC the wood in a longbed fleetside measures 97.5"

Re: Cheap cheap bed floors??

Not long enough for a longbed. I used 10' lengths cut down.

Re: Cheap cheap bed floors??

I used composite boards for mine. Changed them this past summer. You will actually use the Facia boards instead of the deck boards. I got mine at Lowes. It is the gray color. I painted my metal strips black. Looks like an old truck bed but it won't rot. The only thing I would do differently is to add a cross member at the back end just past the fender wells. It is sturdy and looks great. Adding a cross member would make it even sturdier. I'll post pics if you need them. Take care.

Treated 3/4" plywood & stainless steel strips.

As Mr. Spock would say: "Crude but effective".

Re: Cheap cheap bed floors??

Treated, torched, finished plywood from Lowes with painted strips. I think the finished product looked a little better with the hardware installed. I snapped this pic during the process though.

I'm undecided on whet I'll use on my new/modded bed floor.
Any more info you can provide? Are the Facia boards 3/4" thick or a different dimension?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Cheap cheap bed floors??

Yes. they are 1x8's. Same dimensions as traditional lumber. Looked up the groove pattern and cut everything like a traditional board from the factory. Some say that the boards aren't rigid. Well.. Besides the back of your truck where you don't have a cross member, everything else works great. I just used whatever was at the big box store. I haven't restored my truck yet. When I do I may order boards in a particular color that would look nicer. I'll try to get some pics tonight.

Thanks. Additional pics never hurt
