5 window cab

Were the only big trucks with 5 window cabs the cab over style? Or did they have regular cab with 5 window? Im starting on something and would like to try and find a 5 window cab if possible. I have plans for a front clip and dash, I think the "rare" cab would be cool. Dont have the money right now, (saving for a trip) but is there a chance I could find one...or am I wasting my time?

Re: 5 window cab

5 window cabs were on 1947 to the early 1955 chevy trucks only. The late 1955 to 1959 truck came with a small back window or a wrap around large back window.

Re: 5 window cab

CAL, I know the 47-55 had them...we have a 54 GMC with 5 window. But I remember seeing a 55-59 on here a long time ago and they said he had used a big truck cab that had 5 windows.

I didnt know the smaller trucks had them, thought only the bigger trucks and cab overs had them.

Yes, conventional (vs. LCF) Task Force trucks had the five window cabs. And they do interchange with the light duty trucks.

WOW! I have never seen a 5 window cab for these years. If I am correct according to my factory assembly manual. The 1 ton and larger cabs are not the same. On 1 ton and larger cabs there is a wheel well on the step plate inside the cab. Although, if you can find one you might be able to section the back panel on to a regular cab. I would defiantly check it out first. Also if you are planning any type of total retro then I highly recommend buying the 1955 to 1959 Chevy truck assembly manual. It's a great resource for not only you tear down & re-assembly but it's great for finding what those missing parts look like and go.

Re: 5 window cab

I think some of them may have wheel well on the step plates, but not all. We have had 2 14,000lb (GVW) trucks and both had regular cabs like a pickup...no extended opening other than fender. One was a 58, still have the 56 whats left of it.

In my experience, the conventional cabs do not differ significantly throughout the model range, the five window being the exception. The five window TF cabs actually appear to be big window cabs with supports welded into the opening. Relative to wheel-well prominence in the cab, observe front wheel to cab relationship on the LCF (COE) trucks: http://www.classiccoe.com/oldcoetrucks/5459.htm
