Older post, but the question was never fully answered. I was under the same impression on Chevy C 20's, but never thought about GMC 2500's. Just came across this '69 GMC 3/4 ton with 3.73 ratio. SPID says its option JA2. Funny, looked at some GMC sales brochures, there were no mention of the ratios, Chevy sales brochures from the same era list ratios. No wonder why I didn't have the knowledge then.http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/...0/1760063.html

Re: Dana 60 Ratios

Next logical question would be if this ratio was a regular option on GMC 3/4 tons with the Dana 60, could this ratio be special ordered on a Chevy 3/4 ton with a Dana 60?

Re: Dana 60 Ratios

Interesting find. I'd think yes, in Chevys too.

Re: Dana 60 Ratios

That is quite an interesting find. First I've ever seen or heard of 3.73s factory optioned in a 67-72 3/4 ton.

Re: Dana 60 Ratios

Very interesting thread, I had never seen or heard of a 3:73 ratio in a 3/4 or 1 ton before. But here is a GMC longhorn SPID with it listed.

2) Aftermarket was mentioned above - what is the lowest numerical R&P set that will fit on a 4-series carrier, 4.10? Who are some of the aftermarket companies that might carry some of this stuff? Currie? etc.

3) Is there an aftermarket means of making one's 4.10 D60 a 3.73?
If you currently have 4.10's, you can swap in 4.30's,3.92's, 3.73's, and 3.54's on your carrier.

If you have 4.56's, you can run 4.88's, 5.13's, and a fair bit lower.

It is also possible to swap in 3.07's if needed.

I had a '72 K2500 (D60/D44) that had 3.73's. There was no mention of gear ratio on the SPID so it could have been swapped but IDK.

That's the best idea if you want tall gears for the hiway and maintain pulling power and that was GM's idea
Don't forget...Ford had Dana to build a high-pinion front Dana 60......that WAS a "better idea"......

Re: Dana 60 Ratios

I've got a 3.54 in my coil spring C20, but since I've recently installed a 2004r I'm looking for a 4.11 but haven't had any luck. Has anyone changed gears? I'm wondering how hard it would be.

Re: Dana 60 Ratios

You really shouldn't need to do that. Look a little harder, I am sure you will find someone who would swap. Is yours a factory big block/TH400 truck?

It originally had a 327 T400 combo with the HO52 rear with 4.56 gears. That was too high so I swapped in the dana 60 with the 3.54, which was much better! Then I came across the 2004r and installed that and now the gears are a little too low, about 1600 at 65.

Swap the HO52 back under?

I consider swapping gears to be easy, but I see many people that are scared of setting up a Dana differential that will advise against it. I don't even have a case spreader and still don't have any trouble.

I would but I gave it to a fellow truck owner that needed it for a project.

I think I'll give swapping the gears a try. Worst case is I'll take it to a shop if I'm not confident with it.
