67-72 Bolt kit

Hello, I am new to this site and am starting my first build, A 1968 chevrolet K10 auto 4x4. I am wanting to Replace all of the bolts, specifically in the chassis, when i get the frame back from the media blasters. Do they sell a complete bolt kit for a build or is this something you have to just go out and piece together yourself? Thanks in advance -Aron

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

There isn't a complete bolt kit for the chassis. You'll have to go to the local hardware store to get what bolts you need. Tractor Supply has a good selection of bolts to choose from. Some people like using grade 8 bolts while others prefer grade 5 bolts when it comes to mounting brackets to the frame. I'm restoring a '69 K10 SWB and I used grade 8 hardware on my frame brackets and crossmembers.

However, you can buy complete bolt kits for the front end sheetmetal and the bed.

Welcome to the board and good luck with your build.

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

I was wondering, similarly, does anyone have a LIST of needed bolts? That would be pretty awesome.

I would suggest to buy a factory assembly manual for your truck. It lists all types of bolts, clips, wiring......pretty much step by step for the whole truck.

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

most of the bolts on the frame are the same - I would go to a local Tractor Supply Store and get the bulk Grade 8 or Grade 5 bolts/washers/lock washers/nuts that are zinc coated to get them the cheapest.

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

I went with some kits from Totally Stainless over the years on various vehicles and have always been happy. Price is not too bad either for stainless hardware.

http://www.totallystainless.com/

They have complete body, suspension, interior kits, etc....

Just click on their catalog and scroll down to the 67-72 GM truck section.

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

Thanks for all the input, Number98 those look like nice kits, a little pricey but probably worth not having the headache of messing with rusted hardware, thanks again.

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

ditto on the tractor supply.. You can even replace rivets with the grade8 hardware if you had rust growing behind certain brackets...

There is basically one size bolt that will fill 90% of your frame holes...

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

I went down to my local fastener shop called Montana Bolt, if anyone is ever in the neighbor hood or just locals in general, I recommend them great people quality products and great prices. I bought 100 3/8"x 1 1/4 course thread grade eight bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts and total only came to a whopping $31.

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

Ok, I think someone should buy a complete bolt kit, list out the pieces, and post it here. Not it.

I went to their web site and thumbed through countless pages, but could not find any complete bolt replacement kits. They do have bolt kits but not for the entire truck, they have it broken down to say the bed or fender mounting. I was frustrated with not being able to find it and having 20 more pages to look at so I emailed them and they responded back saying that they did not infact have any such kit for the entire truck. Although they refered me to Totally Stainless as a possibility.

Re: 67-72 Bolt kit

The kits that I have found are still not as "complete" as you would think. You have to buy the suspension, steering, cab mount, front body mount, engine, trans, cross member and rear end kits separately and some you have to buy the wood bed kit separately. Classic Industries sells them but will not have any in stock for an expected 3-4 weeks. Part number 67435 is for a steel bed. If you have a wood bed you would order a bedless kit (61393) then order the bed kit you need (110321 or 110322 or 110323). These kits are stainless and black stainless. Totally Stainless has the same kits basically but I think they are a little cheaper and they offer different bolt head types.

The total of the bolt kits I'd like is $1262.95 + shipping and that does not include the motor, transmission or rear end kits. Get's pretty expensive to do the whole truck.

Here's what I got from Classic.

SET CONTAINS BLACK STAINLESS FOR AN ORIGINAL LOOK WHERE APPLICABLE
INCLUDES FASTENERS FOR: BED MOUNTS, FRONT BED PANEL, INNER FENDERS & SIDE ANGLES, REAR FENDER BRACES, TAILLIGHTS, TAILGATE, BUMPERS, DOOR HINGES, DOOR LATCHES, DOOR JAMBS, DOOR SILLS, FIREWALL, MASTER CYLINDER, STEERING COLUMN, COWL, BATTERY BOX, FRONT & INNER FENDERS, HEADLIGHT, FRONT LENSES, HOOD HINGES, HOOD BRACES, HOOD LATCH, INTERIOR TRIM, OUTSIDE MIRRORS, RADIATOR SUPPORTS, SEAT MOUNTS, AND MORE.

Here's Totally Stainless.

BODY KIT- Every Body Kit includes component kits for Battery Box, Bumper, Cowl Cover, Front & Inner
Fenders, Door Hinges, Door Jambs & Sills, Door Latches, Headlight Bezels, Front Lens & Side Marker Light,
Hood Hinges, Hood Latch, Interior, Outside Mirror, Radiator Support, and Seat Mounts. Body Kits with Beds
also include all appropriate bed component kits listed on the next page.
-IF YOU NEED FASTENERS FOR A PANEL OR FLAT BED TRUCK ORDER A BEDLESS BODY KIT-
**IF YOU HAVE A WOOD BED FLOOR TRUCK ORDER A BEDLESS BODY KIT AND A BED

What is the difference between the hex bolts and indented hex? I like the look of the button style bolts but they seem liek they would be hard to get to in some spots.
