Swapping 1998 Tailgate Handle to a locking version
I have just installed a BAKFlip MX4 Tonneau cover on my 1998 Extended Cab Silverado.
I want to swap out the tailgate handle for a locking version. Other than getting a tailgate handle with the lock cylinder and most likely a new bezel, are there any other internal parts needed? Or is the locking feature integrated into the new latch assembly and I simply bolt it in and connect the clips to the latch rods?

No the latch should have the built in lock assembly. All it does is limit the upward movement of the handle so it can't move far enough to unlatch.

Re: Swapping 1998 Tailgate Handle to a locking version
I had a gaylord's tonneau on my 93 chevy c10, I reversed the latch to the inside and welded filler plate outside for security and clean look..
good luck!

I don't think there was a locking one from the factory. I think, not sure, I bought this one from LMC. |

BTW never get chrome plated parts from LMC unless they are inside and you don't touch them often. Otherwise they are crap.

Looks like you're gonna have to get a pop&lock version from either realtruck or autoanything.
LMC doesn't seem to have locking versions |

Pilot Automotive's LH-002 was one I was looking for but they no longer make it. They said they are working on a revised version. http://www.pilotautomotive.com/tailg...002_GMC_1.html
