Doing a Fire Prevention week with kindergardeners Monday with our ladder truck I had the pleasure of seeing a Stealth Bomber fly over really low and slow. Their home base is about 120 miles west of me. It's amazing that that thing can stay in the air. Made my day.

As a former AF B-52 mechanic, I still have a soft spot for those old things. Hard to believe the Govt chopped up dozens of them as they were all still mostly in great flying condition. There are still a few around.

Its the norm for our jacked up govt.... Remember about a decade ago when the govt. would pay dealerships to take in perfectly running cars to be chopped up because they were "inefficient". I think it was called "cash for cars"

Remove logic and it makes more sense...

Oh, almost forgot, love the stealth bomber.

My shop is in direct path with the main runway at the airport. And we have an Air Guard unit here. We frequently get old bombers doing maneuvers overhead. It's a real show and work come to a screeching halt when they do. The sound of those old engines is unmistakable

It was "cash for clunkers" and was several billion dollars over what was expected. Trade-ins had to be running and new cars were paid for by the government. Dealerships were often not paid and it was a drawn-out process. Engines were filled with glass to destroy those. No cars were allowed to be re-sold or used as spare parts. The result was a loss of cheap but running cars often sought after by teenagers and the cash-strapped.

The B-52 has been retained and several years ago slated for upgrades to keep it going for a long time to come. It first flew in 1952.

I’m not ex Air Force but I am fascinated with military planes. We have C130s fly over daily but on one occasion some years ago my son and I were sitting in front of the shop tearing a trans down. Being used to the sounds of C130s flying over we rarely looked up but I noticed a different sound approaching. I looked over my shoulder and saw two bombers in line coming over almost tree top high and with landing lights on. Holy crap! WTH? That was a thrill.

At the 1999 Cherry Point, NC Marine air show I was buzzed so low by an F/A 18 Hornet it blew my baseball cap off. I loved it.

A few years ago an F 15/F/A18 (something with twin vertical stabilizers) flew so low down the Camp Creek I-77 valley it could be considered "buzzing." Fortunately I was driving through there right then and could enjoy it.

In 2010 I made three skydives from the airplane pictured below on what is called "a boogie." (Skydiver term for a big jump day). At the end of the day the pilot headed back to his home airport but was nice enough to buzz the cookout area at about 20 feet. We all cheered.
