if i remember correctly, they quit putting the 2.8 in there when the 4.3 came out in 86. but the tranny from 86-curr has been the 4L60 (700R4)

The 4L60 and 700R4 are similar, but nit the same. I know my 92 had the 700 in it. You can tell at a glance by looking for the TV cable. The 700 has it where the 4L60 is all electric.

nightmare may have a point about not having the 2.8s aval in the late 80s. But if they did they had either the 3 or 4 speed th200. (The 2.8 is a 60* V6 like the 3.8. set up for the 200series trans.

The 4.3 is a 90* V6 and either the 700R4 or the 4L60/4L60E
Will fit.

My 91 had a 4.3 w/ a 700R4 in it.
My 84 had a 2.8 w/ a Th200 3 speed.

Dont know of any sites having been looking myself. THe first year for the 4.3 was in 1986. I got a 1986 4wd s-10 but it is a 2.8 V-6 with a 5 speed tranny.

The 2.6 was available until at least '91 since I had one.Truck ran great and drove great but had the 5 speed manual, thank god.It was so underpowered I had to downshift in a 20 mph headwind. Suprisingly enough the economy was lousy.I think the best I ever got was around 20mpg.
