cool pics thanks jon, i think that last one is pretty much what i have right now. but im going more towards the proportions of that black one i think it looks perfect. everyone one ive seen seems to be way up in the air. they look really good as 4x4's but im going to put mine on the ground. there was a member on here with a really sweet black and silver two tone shortbox truck im going somewhere along the lines of that two tone color scheme.

the thought crossed my mine for a second when i began to realize how nice of a truck this donor was. but in the end i opted to stick with the original idea of a shorty.

Re: Bought this 1964 Crew Cab on Craigslist

as long as you keep the original box, on ice, there is no reason to say that you butchered it,as I said before 127 inch 3/4 ton frames are a dime a dozen, and you would have no problem putting it back to stock at a later date if you were so inclined..

who cares what the original owner thinks. he sold it, so that is HIS problem. Sorry, my two cents.

Get that sawzal cutting and send the previous owner a few leftover pieces, so he has something to cry on. Looks like you have a good plan, it will be a nice ride.

I like the direction you're taking. I say you send the PO a copy of the magazine you get it published in for tear wipage...
The guy doesn't have the vision you have and it doesn't matter. The truth is that he will probably end up liking your changes. And if not; oh well. Pay your respect to the truck by doing a quality job and then showing it off!

Unless there's something I don't know, but when I was looking at making my LB a SB, the job required you to also take 12" & 8" out of the frame. So if I understand your post correctly it's not as simple as a bed swap.

Re: Bought this 1964 Crew Cab on Craigslist

His original cc had a long fleet setup. they just extended the cab into the box.
when he does his modification, with the short fleet box, he is going to have to extend his current frame to something like 145-156 inch wheelbase.
if he ever wanted to go back to the original configuration, all he would need is the original box, and a 127 wb frame.

Re: Bought this 1964 Crew Cab on Craigslist

When I got my 67 CrewCab it had a long bed on it and the wheelbase was 160". I grafted a shortbed rear frame section on it and reduced it to 148".

First off I would like to say congrats on the great find. Second, if anyone butchered the ol gal it was the original owner. He milked all he could out of the ol gal then pawned her for what he could get. Now you're giving her a face lift, O excuse me Lower... keep cutten. Your plan will be a big improvement.

Re: Bought this 1964 Crew Cab on Craigslist

Or you could put that long bed in the mail and send it to me!!!!! I need a nice one as mine got hit on both sides this summer. Another thing about the long to short bed conversion is that the wheel opening is three inches longer on a long box. When the bed is shortened, I think that the proportions look better with the larger wheel opening.
