Man, the corn I boiled up the other day was so good. There were a couple ears left in the pot still warm a while after I finished supper. I ate them straight out of the water, no nothing on it, and it was fan-tastic! Suweeeeet!

I'll do it direct on the grille husked, just keep moving it around. You can butter and season first but I don't. Some like to season with chile lime, other Mexican type seasonings, cajun, Old Bay, whatever lends to the rest of the meal. I generally do butter and pepper once cooked. I've gotten away from using salt (a long time now) and don't miss it a bit. Enough gets forced on us in the food we eat as it is.

I'm painting the t&g front porch on my house. I've had the rockers, bench, and table out on the grass since Saturday morning. No rain yet, not that it would kill them. Although out in front of the house and by the road, the rockers are sitting where the bush and flowers obscure the view from people driving by enough to feel private. The other night I sat back in the one rocker and had a relaxing beer as I contemplated the plan for the next morning. It was like my front lawn was my living room. That's what I love about summer, you can feel like you don't even need a house! I sat out there and ate my supper using the bench as my table. All you need in summer is a place to duck in out of the rain. It brings back nostalgic feelings from my youth when I did some traveling and beach bumming. I went months never being in a house.

I know for some these are used year 'round, but we all get our butts out on one when it's nice out

Then there's lawn, patio, porch furniture, park benches, a rock or log. All outdoor furniture. It's for summertime!

Here is a picture of my sister and me one summer. This was Hancock, MD which was our half way take a break eat a meal point. This was the old two-lane days when it took all day to get up to my grandparent's place. My folks moved up there in the early-70s. Not long after came the interstate, then the stretch between was completed and now it takes a bit more than two hours.

Thanks Jason. I try to get my use out of it more than yard decoration. I went through two Pawley's Island hammocks back when I had kids growing up. I works all the time and never got to lay in either one. I told myself I'm not getting another until the day I know I'll be using it regularly... for long naps!

I asked wifey about trying this yesterday afternoon, that was all it took. She heard about it somewhere and had been wanting to try it. She used smoked paprika though. Good stuff.

It's about time for the short trip to Michigan for me. Peaches, blueberries, blackberries and most important for me the red raspberries. The trip up along the lake is a real nice trip this time of year. I wonder if the fruit is a little behind this year due to spring weather?

I got short-changed on the road trip this year due to BS at work I planned on taking June off this year since we were doing the east coast and did not want to be there July or August for the sweltering humidity. I was only able to secure the first two weeks off so I had to catch a plane back to Cali while we were in New Hampshire. My wife and kids were able to finish off the trip and made it back here on July 3rd. The kids have now been to every state capital except Juneau, Alaska and every Presidential Library. This trip saw FDR’s library in New York, JFK’s in Boston, and Jimmy Carter’s in Atlanta. We always stop in to see family in Ohio for a few days. Here are some hi lights of the trip below. Sorry if they are sideways, I give up on the iPhone and it takes too much time to flip them. It took me 45 mins just to type this response and attach the pics.

After leaving Ohio we drove to Pennsylvania. My maternal grandfather was from Dillsburg and had 8 siblings so I still have a lot of relatives there too. I drove right by Carlisle, missed the all Chevy and GMC show by two weeks . We stayed in Mechanicsburg and then went to Hershey. I hadn’t been there since ‘82...wow how much it has changed! The factory tour and the whole place is like Disneyland now After that we headed to upstate New York to Hyde Park, Catskills, and Albany. I despise NYC about as much as Los Angeles, but the rest of the state is very nice, green and beautiful scenic driving.

You take the best vacations. Your kids are having experiences they will appreciate all the more once they're grown with kids. New York is a nice big chunk of real estate with prime countryside from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic. Then there is NYC, which could be it's own planet. But if you could wipe all that out and visualized it as it was when the Euros discovered it as the next place to devour you would see a paradise of rivers, coves, and great farmland. Everything needed for a good life lived off the land.

Man Dillsburg is right up the road. I can take back roads the whole way there... and to Carlisle. In May, Jalopy Showdown was nearby at Lattimer Valley Fairgrounds until two years ago, when it out grew the historic venue. We'd go to that all day Saturday, then to Williams Grove Speedway for World of Outlaws, camp out, next morning catch a diner in Dillsburg, then to the Williams Grove Flea Market (Sunday only). One of my favorite weekends of the year. West toward the mountain you have serious orchard country. You can cut through all that to get over to Carlisle.

What Chevy/GMC truck show do you mean that you missed?

Here's another thing that says summertime in a big way. Some may drink year 'round, but it still screams summertime to me.

Better yet... Sun Tea! That's what made me think of it. It was so blazing hot and it hit me it is the perfect time to make sun tea.

Just got back from 2 weeks bombing around Idaho and Montana and ate lots of corn on the cob floating in butter, yum, yum.
Here in the central valley we have fruit and veggie stands every mile or so it seems so the only thing I grow personally is my Marchant Peppers for canning, sometimes pickling cucumbers and my Heirloom Brandywine slicing tomato's whose seeds I originally got from the Amish back east...best ever!

How about PEACHES???

Oh lordy lordy. I've been buying the juiciest PEACHES from the one stand I've been passing on my way home from the job I'll finish today. I don't know if they're really that juicy or if it's me salivating at the thought of the first bite. So tender and ripe you don't need teeth to eat one (I'd imagine). I was telling the kind woman how much I've been enjoying them and hate to have to buy frozen all winter long for my daily oatmeal. "Oh you can freeze them right up. Just slice, lay out flat in the freezer, then bag them up". We had a PEACH orchard on the farm I grew up on and I remember my mom freezing PEACHES. But I was thinking she blanched them first and I was thinking it was more involved. This lady, Jenny of Jenny's Market, went in her house and came out with a gallon bag of frozen PEACHES for me to try. Now that's what I call good customer relations!!
