Restore 67-68 Horn button?

Im looking for tips/ advice on how to refurbish my horn button. I want to clean it up and make it look as nice as I can, but I'm looking for some advice on how to go about it so I don't end up damaging the part. Ive attatched a pic of the current condition for reference. Small wire wheel on a dremmel? Buffing wheel? Any other adivce or ideas is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Restore 67-68 Horn button?

If your going all out then media blast it with very fine grit to remove all paint and the corrosion in the pitted spots. Such as the grit for cleaning spark plugs. (Boy I'm sure that dates me) Then use a glazing body putty to fill the pits and sand smooth with 220 or finer. Carefully remove any putty from the circle and the GMC. Respray the silver/Argent(?) And the repaint the black by hand. Shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes.

The problem with using a rotary wheel to clean it is that you never get all of the stuff in the bottom of the pits out until you have buffed a dish in the surface. You could chemically remove the paint and neutralize the remover. Then treat with Ospho or similar before painting.
