Where to get outer bottom seat springs?

I am replacing the cover on my 71 bench seat and the outer springs that support the edge are broken on the seat bottom. Can anyone suggest a site to buy replacements ? Thanks

Re: Where to get outer bottom seat springs?

I got mine from a old grain truck that a friend was salvaging out. Used the passenger side, the drivers side was broke too. New I didn’t find a outlet to purchase it from.

I am actually dealing with this as well. Just yanked my seat last night. If you look at them, they are just standard zig-zag upholstery springs. I am going to get a foot of the spring from a local upholstery shop and give it some quick bends and secure it in there with the little sheetmetal c-clip things. I am gonna do this today and I can report back later this evening and let ya know how it goes.

Re: Where to get outer bottom seat springs?

Well here it is. Buy two feet of no sag zig-zag spring. Extra for if you screw up. . Cut off about 6 inches of it and leave a little hook on the end to keep it in the clip and the frame. Use a cut off wheel or bolt cutters. Don’t stand on either end of it to flatten it out so you can fit the cutoff wheel in. It will let go like hell when you cut through it. Ask me how I know. Slide one end into the slot on the frame. Use your man strength to bend the other end over to where the old spring was attached. Get it close and use some vice grips to hold the end of the springs together where you're gonna put the clip. Clamp on a clip with some pliers. Whammy. No more butt sag. Now mine doesn’t feel perfect cause my foam is shot but at least I’m not leaning hard to the left when I sit on it.

Mucho Thanks!!!

I have like 4 seats (for my 2 pickups, 1-67, 1-68...LOL) The cushion foam is totally screwed on all 4.
An inexpensive foam repair is the next miracle I'm looking for!!! I'm not likely to pay the $350.00-$500.00 for a piece of foam!!!

Re: Where to get outer bottom seat springs?

No problem. And yes precut foam is ridiculously priced. BUT big chunks of foam from an upholstery shop is not expensive. Look into it man. You can get different density and layer it if ya want. Hell, the shop you buy it from may even carve it up to match your old one, most likely for a fee, but probably a lot less than buying premade stuff. I'm not an upholsterer, but I have done a lot more complicated **** than carving a block of foam. I'm gonna give it a shot one of these days.

I have heard an electric turkey carving knife works well also. Or you can make a foam cutter out of a motorcycle battery and some single strand wire.
