'57 283 & Powerglide in a '55-'57

Just wondering if these came stock or if you could only get the Hydramatic in the trucks? I bought a '57 passenger car 283 and PG trans and want to put them in a '57 panel. Did the trucks have trans mounts for this powerglide or will I have to make them? I have the mounts for the front of the engine, just need to figure out mounting the trans. Thanks Jim

Re: '57 283 & Powerglide in a '55-'57

CW,
on my '57 3100, I know that the SM420 bolts up to the 265 and the only thing in the way of tranny mounts is the bellhousing.lol the back end of the SM 420 just hangs there... I have read up on changing out the drivetrain to a side mount V-8 and newer tranny, and it seems that you will have to fab up a new x-member for the PG you want to put in. This should be fairly straightforward. Just measure twice and cut once. It would help to have a cross member out of a truck/car that originally came with a PG unit... I will be interested in hearing how this works out for ya. Good luck!
