700R4 in a K10 questions:

Picked up a 700R4 from a 1991 4x4 at the U-pull auto wrecker. All trannies were on sale for $69.00...Currently my K10 has a 6.0 LQ4 with the TH350 and 205 Transfer case. I know I can swap the 700R4 output shaft and the total dimensions of the combo will be about 1.5" longer. Or buy the adapter from Advance Adapters and keep stock output but it grows to 3" longer. A guy has a 700R4 to 205 adapter for sale on Craigs here and I am wondering what the overall length would be with this adapter..

I can't help with your question. Is the adapter for sale different than the two you mentioned? A '91 4L60 will bolt directly to your NP205 with the short AA output shaft.

On my truck I elected to move the engine forward leaving the transfer case and driveshafts in place. I had to move the mounts forward 1.5", extend the exhaust pipes, shorten the coolant hoses, move the shift linkage forward and my factory fan shroud no longer fit. The front driveshaft is pretty close to the transmission pan but does not hit with a 2" lift.

I do not know what changes need to be made with an LS in the engine bay.

What engine controller are you using? Many choose the 4L60e so their factory controller does the transmission chores as well as runs the engine.

Yes the adapter looks like the TH 350 one that's on my K10 only thicker...? maybe?
I am using the stock PCM as an ECM...stock fuel injection. (Really it's a relatively easy swap.) The donor had a 4L80E but the case was trashed and the 4L80E is too long for my application. I plan on moving the engine forward as required as I have quite a bit of room as engine is in the stock 350 location, and I don't want to move the 205 or driveshafts.

Re: 700R4 in a K10 questions:

I thought that a 6.0 PCM will not control a 4L60E and would only control a 4L80E?

Re: 700R4 in a K10 questions:

Does the 700r4 tailshaft have enough splines going back towards the housing? If so you could just cut the tailshaft off to match the length of the turbo 350 splines. Then bolt it together. Seen this done on a 4l80.They slid a bigger piece of pipe over the shaft to mark it even all the way around it then used a cut off wheel. Of course they put rags around it to keep metal from getting inside the tailhousing .

I thought about this...just stuff some rags soaked in cold water around shaft to keep shaft from getting too hot..

Re: 700R4 in a K10 questions:

I'm following this because I plan on doing the same swap in my 72 k10 with a 396 and 700r4 trans. Motor needs to come forward for firewall clearance and with the 700r4 needing to come forward around 1 1/2 inches it will put everything where it needs to be.

Yes DBC...out of a 2003 2500HD. Fabricated a bracket for the TH350 downshift cable so TV shouldn't be too hard.
