99 silverado 4.3 to 5.3

My son's truck had a rod bearing go out (4.3). We are trying to figure out whether to put another 4.3 back in, or get a 5.3. Is the transmission and torque converter the same (auto), so we could reuse his. Is this a matter of getting the computer, wiring harness and fan shroud out of a doner, or is there much more to it. Will the exhaust bolt up? Air cleaner? Has anyone done this swap?

Thanks,
Greg

Re: 99 silverado 4.3 to 5.3

i have a 2000, looking at doin a swap, and ill tell you a 5.7 swap out of an old body style will be your best bet...the 5.4/4.8 has a different bell housing and several othjer differences to make the swap harder, im hoping to do this swap myself soon, as im tires of having a beat up 4.3...

should be cheaper to find a 350 vortec anyways
