1965 c10 z frame help!?

Hey guys in the process of doing my very first z front frame. Now i have serched all the forum and see great write ups. But one thing im confused on is the angle some guys do 20 degrees some do straight cuts. I m only doing. A 2.5 in just to save for clearence. But if i do a 20 degree that will add some travel correct? And i will have to think about driveshaft and other things. I think straight cut is the safest but please help me!

Straight cut then add gussets. If you angle your cuts your going to alter your wheelbase.

Re: 1965 c10 z frame help!?

I've thought about doing it myself. I was looking at making the rear cut right behind the crossmember, that way it clears the firewall, and as far as the front I would probably Just go just behind the core support mounts. I can't remember how close the steering gear box is.

You also can pancake the cross member an inch, raise it up in the frame an inch and go with a rack for steering as an alternative. Your only going 2 " so this method eases the radiator and sheet metal issues.

Re: 1965 c10 z frame help!?

I did a 4 up and 1 forward on my 75 (my 66 has a sectioned crossmember and raised steering). The 1 inch forward clears the firewall better and centers the wheels in the wheel well.

You really only need about 1.5'' to lay flat. You can also lower the body mounts an inch. I did a 4 inch Z because I was planning on laying rocker.
