Parts ordered from Summit, received from Classic Industries

I ordered two Stepside backup lights from Summit Racing and they were back ordered for a couple of weeks. Today I received a package from Classic Industries with my Summit Racing order in it. Does Classic Industries own OER?

Re: Parts ordered from Summit, received from Classic Industries

I order from my local speed shop, anything from Summit, he gets for me, at a better price.

But. If you take any part number out there, most likely it’ll show up on summit website. I guess they’re like the Amazon of car parts.

So I bought a lot of non-race car related stuff through my local speed shop. For instance, my entire Ridetech setup.

I ordered a carb from Summit one time. It came in a Holley box.

Could we see your new Back-up Lights?
I ordered some new clear lenses from a vendor once for my '68 C/10 Stepside, but they were different from OEM.
I think I ordered from LMC, but they came in a Classic Industries bag, with LMC part number stickers attached.
The originals had concentric rings inside the lens to spread out the light rays omnidirectionally.
The replacements had parallel lateral lines.
[Probably a '60-'66 part.]
I didn't think it would be an issue, but the replacement ones mounted cock-eyed on the passenger side.
Instead of the screw holes being at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock [like they are on the driver side] the passenger side mounting holes are at 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock. With concentric rings [Fresnel Lens], angle doesn't matter, but with the parallel lines the rays cast obliquely.
Big deal, it's only back-up lights, but it bugs me.
Early Monday morning, or Late Friday afternoon assembly? IDK.

Re: Parts ordered from Summit, received from Classic Industries

Summit, OER, and classic industries all make exactly nothing. The same with all the body parts distributors. They all distribute parts they buy from others and make a profit from that. The same is true pretty far back up the distribution chain. The same is true for most parts made in Asia and sold as supposed name brands. Just a fact of life.

If someone got the parts they wanted, rather than nothing but a bill, something is actually working for once.

None of this is bad, it's just something people seem to be unaware of.

Here are some pictures of my backup lights along with the brackets. The holes in both brackets are drilled the same and neither backup light fits with the orientation so that the label on the lens that says top is not on the top. I suppose I could redrill the bracket but I'm not sure if my ocd-ness is that overpowering on this issue. Now that you brought it up I may not be able to unsee it. Lol

Most companies will drop ship items from the suppliers on items that arent high turn over items. I order Mar-k items from summit because the shipping is much better they only charged me an oversize fee not actual shipping . My DeWitt radiator came directly from DeWitt only place that said summit was the shipping label but it had Dewitts address on it .

I would redrill those brackets so they line up correctly.

You've got the lights attached to the wrong surface of each bracket. The "L" and "R" stampings face the front of the vehicle. The lines on both lenses on my truck are horizontal.

Summit buys from/sells thru whatever warehouse/outlet store will give them the best price.

Re: Parts ordered from Summit, received from Classic Industries

I just bought a set of seat foams from summit. They were drop shipped from the manufacturer (dashes direct). They would have cost me $100 more had I bought them from the manufacturer. Summit was also free shipping. The manufacturer was going to charge $60 for shipping. I saved a GRIP by purchasing through summit.

Yeah. They're all selling 60-66 back up lenses because they don't really give a Fxxx. Most parts buyers now weren't alive when these trucks were current, so they have no clue. Logistically simpler to make a ''universal'' part for two seperate ranges of trucks.
If I have time tomorrow, I'll shoot a picture of my known OEM 1968 back up lens, with the Fresnel lens. My old lens is cracked inside from decades of AZ Solar radiation -- but I never throw anything out.

Pat, I never changed the Back-up Light Brackets. They are the way they were set up in Fremont many years ago. It wouldn't be an issue if I hadn't been sold 60-66 lenses.

Yep. I'll bet they installed them backwards at the factory and didn't notice because of the Fresnel lenses. I was commenting about the photos FL71C10 posted earlier.

pjmoreland for the win! I did have them backwards, and once I switched them, the orientation is correct. Here is a pic. I also included a picture of my old ones with the original style lens.

PS, your truck looks great with the black bed wood and the orange paint color!
