01 tahoe 5.3 AIR system

ok so after i went to get my daughter from daycare my tahoe popped its service engine light. so after a trip to the hardware store i stopped at the local parts house and borrowed their code scanner which came up with a p1415 AIR system bank 1 code. so after consulting my dad who is a ASE gm certified mechanic that works at ferguson buick gmc in colorado springs and he told me that its probably the AIR system check valve on the drivers bank(bank 1). so i was curious if its possible to remove the AIR system completely with out any issues or should i just trouble shoot and replace the bad parts? would removing the AIR system do any good power/mpg/runnability wise. and there is no emissions requirements where i am at

No power will be gained from removing it. The AIR pump only runs about 10% of the time & its electric.

I agree with your dad, probably the check valve.

well he gave me access to the gm global connect sight so i'm gonna search the code in the SI portion and see what's up. but aside from eliminating something to have to repair or replace is there anything that can be gained from removing it?

If you dont fix it, You will be staring at a "check engine light" forever unless you have the AIR injection flashed out of the PCM. A check valve is way cheaper than that.

well roger that then. just seems to me that i might be able to get some mpgs from pulling all the smog crap. but i'll just leave it alone and replace as necessary
