Gas Tank Straps

Just compared the gas tank straps I ordered from LMC to the originals on my '67, and they are nothing more than a functional replacement. Does anybody make a closer-to-correct strap set?

Re: Gas Tank Straps

Not that I have found.
Everyone pretty much sells the same thing, using the J bolts instead of the OE style strap with the riveted end pieces.

I am using the new straps, and after installing them I got over the frustration you are going through pretty quick.

Re: Gas Tank Straps

Oh, well. :-/ My dad restores Corvettes to NCRS Top Flight standards, so I guess I developed an eye and taste for such details. Thanks!

Re: Gas Tank Straps

I feel your pain...
Unfortunately the truck restoration parts aren't up to the same speed as the Corvette reproduction parts scene.

There are a bunch of little details like this, that I turned and burned on for years only to just come to the conclusion that it's better to drive my truck sooner than later.

There are parts that were never available as OE design up until a couple of years ago, so I feel it's only a matter of time that the "right" parts will eventually become available.

I don't sweat it when it comes to what others will think, or what a truck show judge will spot. Since 99.9% of people just wouldn't know the difference. My main thing has been putting things together the way the factory intended, and the universal parts tend to have a ripple effect on other parts not fitting the way they should. Which leads to frustrating issues.

But back to the tank straps, like I said - the J hook style straps work just fine. I didn't have any problems using them to get the tank installed properly.

Re: Gas Tank Straps

True words. It's not so much what a judge or knowledgeable tire-kicker will say, I just hate putting functional-only replacement parts on it... Although it would help if they were made in the US.
