Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Ogre the stock mounting bracket just sandwiched the end of the torque arm in rubber and bolted to the tailshaft of the transmission on the Iroc.

I don't think it needs a lot of movement. I have the stock mounting bracket and was thinking of using it.

Shackles and poly bushings wouldn't be a bad idea either.

The pinion angle is way off in that pic.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

The factory torque arm mount (IROC) would need to be relocated to driver side of torque arm.

3/16" plate to weld end of torque arm to and to torque arm.

Diff set close to ride height.

After looking at factory mount I don't think a heim joint would work.

Shackles would work but since I have the factory mount I will give it a shot.

What's the worst that could happen? I don't think I want to know the answer.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Got some color on the chassis today.

Decided to install drive line loop and torque arm mount

when truck is setting at ride height (on the lift).

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Thought I would share a pic I found.

My oldest brother and his friend goofing with my 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak 8.

This was in the mid 70's.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Painted the a-arms today.

Also smoothed out the top of the exhaust manifolds and painted them with VHT nu cast flame proof paint.

Brake lines from summit showed up today.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

What's up with the rain?

I thought we were having a drought.

Was going to paint some suspension parts.

Alternate plan B: remove TPI intake parts for bead blasting.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Still waiting on some brake line fittings and clamps.

While waiting I cleaned out the engine shed and started assembling

the metal shelving we liberated from my brothers work.

Once the shelving is finished I will remove everything that doesn't need to

be in the shop and store it in the engine shed.

I will be able to work on chassis and cab inside the shop this winter.

Monte Carlo transmission is finished. Now it needs an altenator.

Thanks BC Toy chest. You are welcome.

Finished the Monte Carlo and delivered it to our niece in Oregon.

Haven't done much with the truck this year. Busy with mowing and house stuff.

I will get on it soon.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

It's been awhile since my last post. Finally got the brake lines run.

They are not pretty but as long as they work.....

Once the bed is on they will look better.

Waiting on my order for fuel lines and -AN fittings.

Once everything is clamped down the cab and bed can go on.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Set the TPI engine in the chassis so I could finish the fuel lines.

I did some modification to the fuel rails lines so they would come out on the passenger side.

Tubing is hard to bend without kinking in cold weather, even with silicon spray.

Was going to make a support bracket off of the AC pump.

I don't like the way it turned out. Now looking to mod the fuel rails so the lines exit the rear (I know about the fuel restrictor) for a cleaner look.

That's the plan. This year for sure don't know about springtime.

Thinking about going to the Turlock swap meet.
