Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

A funny thing happened yesterday, I saw a brand new 4 wheel drive Chevy that was almost taller than me with a stock suspension. It was orange like my 68 two wheel drive and I was just looking at it. A salesman came up and started trying to sell it to me. I told him that I built the Chevy I was driving expressly to NOT have computers, thin metal and simulated chrome etc.. I wanted a simple, dependable, easy to work on, all metal truck. (I should have taken a photo side by side because wow have trucks changed as you all know) but I realized at that moment that I would not even trade straight across much less pay 50-60K for a truck. It seems unreasonable but I wouldn't. I built my Chevy to drive and I drive it. And they are hard to find this day in age. Now maybe if I was rich then I would have both but....would you trade yours for a brand new version?

Thumbs up Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

Simply put NO!

I have my 71 for 30 plus years! I had my 67 ramp now for 4 years and I have no intentions of ever selling either one.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

No.
I have a new Ford pick-up, which will be getting sold once I have the C20 sorted.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

My '71 is retired from working, so I like to have both. And having two trucks is a nice luxury. And the '08 has been almost zero maintenance(battery and tires is all I've replaced on it in 10 years). But to answer your question: No. If I had a time machine I'd go back and buy a '67 new every time, and I consider a quality restored 67-72 to be worth what a new truck is at the very least.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

Got rid of my newer vehicle so I could go old school. Have a 67 swb and a 71 blazer for the family. Wife of course would be the one with the newer vehicle. I wouldn't get rid of them for the world. Newer vehicles don't get asked about unless you did some major upgrades. No matter where I go, I get compliments. Not when I had a newer vehicle.

Boy I wish I could have both. I have a 68 Chevy, a 1997 Nissan Hardbody and a Corolla for commuting. All paid for though so there is that =)

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

I was at a grocery store this week. When I came out my 71 GMC was surrounded by two late model GM pickups. As I got closer I noticed a woman and her young son where looking in the window of my truck, I asked her if I could answer any questions? I spent the next 10 min letting the son sit behind the wheel....

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

No. I've had my '72 for 41+ years and I just can't see getting rid of it, in spite of work it has demanded over the last year or so. Not to mention the occasional frustrations, which this board has helped me deal with. Thanks, guys.

Anyway, $65-$70K for a really nice truck is just not in the cards. As much as I would appreciate a new, comfortable, dependable truck, I would have to keep my K20 too. For now, our Tacoma is doing DD duties just fine.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

Only a month ago I was debating selling my 70 and buying a 2011 chevy avalanche. Even a used truck is 21k plus, which is crazy to me. I waited on buying the avalanche and cleared my head. Only thing I would like in my old truck is a/c, disc brakes and overdrive.

As of a couple days ago I scored a 71 gmc sierra grande that needs Tlc. It has disc brakes, a/c, posi rear, wood bed. Life is good.

No blue tooth, or black boxes in my future.

Nope! I hate plastic interior's. That's why I didn't buy the 71 R/T Challenger for $1000 back in the day and didn't take over payments on a friends 2012 F350 2 years ago. Ugggggh!!!!

Pictures below were taken 1969, 1987, 2016 and 2017. In between were 2002 and 2006 Chevy duallys. Each one was increasingly more capable. The new ones are hard to beat for hard work, but guess which one will not be sold as long as I'm alive! It's the one that is now retired from HD use.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

I have a 95 GMC K2500 for a daily driver , Bone stock and it does what I need it to do everyday without issues , I have 4 - 67 short beds I'm rebuilding right now and I'd rather buy new parts for a classic truck than make payments on anything . I can call Enterprize and have a brand new truck delivered to my house to use on major trips for $37.00 a day and beat the crap out of it and hand it back dirty . I understand guy's need newer trucks for work and such but when your retired it's just vanity and vanity is expensive . Besides I look better in a classic truck .

If I traded my old C10 for a new Silverado or Sierra, I'd be losing a ton of money!

Thanks for the compliment!

Unfortunately, we don't use the camper anymore even though it's in great shape. I only had it on the new truck to move it into the building in the picture. Here's a picture of how we travel now and a couple current pictures of the inside of the old camper.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

I have a 72 Super and a 16 High Country. Love them both, but for entirely different reasons. The 16 is a marvel of engineering in my book. It rides great and is quiet, perfect for swallowing up 100 mile chunks of highway effortlessly. It can tow my trailer with a car on it through mountain passes without breaking a sweat. I can listen to satellite radio, and have up to 6 devices connected to WiFi in the middle of Kansas.

My 72 can't do any of that, but I love it just the same. It has styling that will still get attention 46 years from now, and it's a time machine that takes me back to simpler times.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

I wouldn't trade my '69 for anything newer. I currently have an old truck, an old car, and a newer suv and a new car. If I could use my pickup for a daily driver I would. I like the simplicity of it.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

I would not. My brother has a 16 Silverado. Nice truck and I can borrow it any time. He paid 35k used. He comes by all the time and checks out what I'm doing on my trucks. I can't drive them anywhere without getting thumbs up or hearing long stories about how my dad used to have one. My buddy drove by the other day and let me drive his $140,000 Mercedes convertible. Nice car and man was it fast. But I still wouldn't trade. Sure people would look at me in that car but in a different way.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

No, and I need a new or newer truck to work out of badly. But I'll suffer without before letting my '72 go for a new one. You need something to drive while the new one is in for warranty work And unless you keep getting new trucks the new one you bought today will need work at some point that you can't perform or takes thousands to have repaired. So always need that oldie to fall back on. Been there done that.

Many years ago ('90s) when my place was full of 67-72 trucks sitting around, all running and registered, I had a friend say, "You know if you sold all these old trucks you could buy a new one straight out". My simple reply was, "Why would I want to do that?". I had a C/20 camper rig, a C/30 utility body, a couple Blazers, three K/20s, a big block SWB C/10, a Suburban, and a SWB K/10. I also had a '90 350/4spd Blazer (wife's) and an '84 K30 diesel.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

If your question is would you trade straight across for a brand new loaded Chevy Truck my answer would easily be yes. As a matter of fact I would throw in every single 67-72 thing I have in on the deal. I have zero sentimental value on any of my stuff. It would be a different story if I did though. Original owner, grandpa bought it new, owned it thirty plus years ... that sort of thing.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?

I Daily drive an ‘18 Sierra 2500. For convience the new trucks are hard to beat. I routinely drive 2-300 miles a day for work and the miles just roll by pretty effortlessly. They are extremely capable trucks as well. However I’d never give up one my oldies for a new truck. The old trucks equally have there place in my life and I’m not getting rid of either of them so long as I’m alive.
