Th400

I am buying a 1972 GMC with a TH400 tranny and limited slip differential. I was thinking of renting a tow dolly to drive up on with the front wheels and the rear wheels will be in contact with the road and pull it home with my Silverado. Will I damage the rear end?

Re: Th400

Tow with the front wheels on the road and rear wheels on the dolly, or disconnect the drive shaft at the rear u-joint and tie the drive shaft up under the truck with a strap. Chock the wheels when you're up under there disconnecting the u-joint.

Re: Th400

Dollies are designed to haul with turning wheels on dolly/rear on the road. So pull the shaft loose at the rear and keep shaft in place. It's the transmission you are saving. None of this matters to the rear.
