new member with np205 ???

I just took my transfercase out of my 1980 k10 longbed because it pours fluid out of the front output shaft. Come to find the locknut wasn't on all the way. After i tightened it up i noticed that the whole shaft has motion in and out. Is it supposed to? Or did the locknut being loose mess something else up. Thanks

No the front output shouldn't move in and out. Quite possible messed up a bearing or a thrust running it loose. How much does it move?

That doesn't sound good. You might see if a mod can move this over to the 4x4 section for a better response. I don't know enough about the 205's to tell you what might be the problem.

Re: new member with np205 ???

Okay I found out that the 8 bolt plate on the back of the front output shaft is what holds the shaft in on that side and the needle bearings are in the back plate so it has to have a lil movement or it would bore a hole thru it but thanks for the replies
