Shortbed Stepside Bedside Headache

I was taking my 68 bedside bed apart. Sanded an oem passenger bedside down to steel, that I had bought from someone to replace my current one.

After a week of sanding, and removing three layers of old paint, I lined up my original driver side bedside next to the one I had bought and noticed that the are different!?!?

Does anyone know why the two are different? I am completely exasperated, why didn't I notice this before I started sanding???

In the first two pictures the one on the left is original to my truck, the one on the right is the one I just bought. In the third picture they are reversed (different angle). Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Shortbed Stepside Bedside Headache

Weird...it appears someone trimmed metal off of the bottom at an angle.

More pics, top piece is the New/oem bedside, and is missing a piece of sheet metal on the bottom. I removed the angle strip from it.

Bottom piece is original to my truck, and has a bent piece of sheet metal on the bottom for mounting bolts.

Well then I guess you will have to have some new metal Mig welded on.

Looks like you got a 73-87 bed side.

Yeah I started wondering if it might be a different year as well but he didn't say anything about the fender bolt holes being any different.

Crap, what's the easiest way to identify the differences for future reference? Are the bolt holes the most obvious difference?

Right, the fender bolt holes are different, and the front stake pocket is shorter.
