Gauge cluster ?

I purchased a used gauge cluster to rebuild for my 70 C10 and had a moment to look see. It has the temperature gauge but I also found a light that shows through the gas gauge labeled 'temp'. What is the light for?

The fuel gauge is the same for with gauges or warning lights. On the large trucks that used a similar fuel gauge it said tandem lock and something else where temp and brake are on the regular fuel gauge.

If the truck came without a temp gauge, there was a light behind that temp area. It would light up when you first started the truck or it was overheating.

The light is there but not normally connected to anything, and there is no wire going to that position on the cluster connector. The printed circuit trace is there. If you want to connect it, it would take adding the temperature switch type of sensor on your engine. The gauge uses the gauge type sensor. They used to call them ''Idiot Lights'' because by the time they came on, you were already way overheated, and you felt like an idiot. My truck was a bare bones fleet model. I put in a Stewart-Warner mechanical water temp gauge, so I know exacty what my water jacket is doing. In my desert climate the heat can be unforgiving.
