1966 250 hei?

I haven't been able to find and answer to this so I'll just ask. I have a 1981 c10 that I'm putting a 1966 250 inline 6 into. I was curious if anyone new whether or not I could use the HEI distributor from the 1981 250 on the 1965 engine? Thanks for any input.

Thanks I'll have to swap it out on my day off. Just wanted to be sure before taking it all apart for nothing.

Re: 1966 250 hei?

Folks:
Seems like a 1981 HEI would be computer controlled. Does that distributor have a vacuum advance on the side of it? I think the distributor that you want would be an HEI from the late 70's 250 that has the vacuum advance. The 1981 would fit in your motor, but I assume that you are not running the computer that would be necessary to advance it.

Re: 1966 250 hei?

The early 70's HEI was still a separate coil from the dizzy. That 81 should be like the big GM hei you'd get from Summit or any place like that.

If the op could post some pictures that'd be awesome.
