Jimmy Gas Tank Install

I've got a 1972 Jimmy that had a huge rusty aftermarket gas tank installed when I bought it. I replaced the tank with a new poly tank, but I'm not sure about the install. Since I didn't remove a factory tank, I'm not sure how the new tank installs. When I do a search, all the images are for blazer tank installs into trucks.

1) Looking at the photos, is the tank installed in the correct locations (holes in the frame?

2) How the heck am I supposed to get a filler neck tube installed into the tank? The body mount and bed support seem like they're in the way.

Re: Jimmy Gas Tank Install

There is no direct replacement fix for the fuel tank filler! Steel tank is preferred with original filler removed and soldered onto the new tank. Photo's from Michael and Jim... I tried to use the poly tank like you have, heated and bent filler to the front to clear the body mount. A longer 1 3/8 hose snaked around the mount works, but it is a poor excuse and takes 10 minutes to fill the tank. I replaced my poly tank with a Boyd side fill aluminum tank, 2" at the tank, your filler is probably 1 3/8 if it is original. Good luck.

Re: Jimmy Gas Tank Install

Thanks for the info
Unfortunately since I had an aftermarket tank to begin with, I have zero original tank parts to work with.

At least I know what I'm up against now.
