Going to look at a rear slider tomorrow and was wondering how to tell a factory unit from an aftermarket? I tried the search function with no luck, but can't believe this topic hasn't come up before.

I have 2 factory original sliders and both of them are screwed together in the lower corners and not welded. I have never seen any with tinted glass, only clear and they are only have a silver frame. Hope this helps

My '72 is welded and original,vendors varied.The windows were installed post assembly line on the factory lot by a vendor and there were four assembly plants around the country.If the slider is still in the truck,the window gasket will be the no-trim type.Even if the truck came with stainless molding.

With four plants supplying them, it doesn't sound like their is any consistency between, other than silver in color with clear glass? Given that, is there a way to tell an aftermarket slider? Does that make sense?

more times than not, the aftermarket ones have a black frame. Also, look at the latch, factory was metal, and aftermarket is typically plastic. Trevor

If the truck that it came out of happens to be available, look at the SPID.
