Truck wanders when driving

Need a little advice...my newly acquired 1970 c10 wanders left to right when driving....any thoughts on what it could be? Has cpp upper a arms..stock lowers with coil overs
Has agr steering box(new)
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...del/c10-pickup
Steering box or alignment is what I was thinking....alignment looks good to the naked eye
Thanks for the help!!

Re: Truck wanders when driving

First would be to ensure everything is tight and looks like no worn parts or bushings. I would get it aligned and see what you have. It may look OK but if it has little or no caster it will not track well. I like 3 degrees of caster.

Subbed as I have similar problems. I'm pretty sure my issue is bumbsteer, followed by a way off alignment.

Can you post pics of your suspension setup? That would help.

Toe in can cause a vehicle to wander as well as bumpsteer. Does it happen on rough roads with bumps or anytime, including smooth roads? If the road is flat and smooth then I would go with toe in first.

Re: Truck wanders when driving

First thing to do is to check it over for any worn parts and get that fixed first. Then a good alignment.

Re: Truck wanders when driving

How much caster did you end up with and did they do a bump steer check?

Re: Truck wanders when driving

This issue comes up often on the main page alot.

Check your inner tie rods if the studs are pointing to the rear of the truck then you have a center link thats been flipped backwards.

Its a very easy mistake to make, goes unnoticed by many(even the alignment shops) and will cause exactly the issues your describing.

Re: Truck wanders when driving

Bruce, post a picture of your centerlink. It may be on backwards. If backward it causes what you're describing.

Re: Truck wanders when driving

What we do on the alignment rack on the drag cars to check bump steer is raise the front slowly and see how bad the tow changes as it goes up. This was used to see if we needed to limit the travel and if so about where. That way when the front went up in the air the wheels would be at least close to straight. If the tie rods are running up hill at ride height on a lowered truck you can get bump steer as the front goes up and the toe begins to point out. So a check on the rack if there is a concern is to raise the front a few inches and see what the change is.
