Rocker panel / can corner repair estimate??

I am considering purchasing a 72 Chevy shorted stepside truck. The rocker panels and cab corners and doors are rusting and need to be replaced. Any rough estimate on what parts/labor costs? I want to buy the truck but am concerned the body work will cost too much money. So I'm trying to see what I'm getting myself into haha. Thanks!!

Re: Rocker panel / can corner repair estimate??

Welcome to the site! have you or someone checked out the cab supports inner rockers kick panels and floor boards? Those are some of the common rust areas we deal with on these trucks and if you just need the outer rockers and cab corners done and all else is in good shape I would say in between 750 to 1250 , to get them put on and in prime. You need to know that traditionally the bed has to come off for the corners to be put on as well as removing the gas tank.[or at least I remove the tank before welding on the corners!] I did'nt give much time to decide on that price kinda just off the top of my head guessing and that is usally pretty close being my instinct. I will be doing that very same job on a 70 swb in the next couple of weeks so I could give a better estimate afterward. But you need to look at those other areas outlined in the above

thanks!

a local shop quoted me anywhere from 12-18 hours per side @ 70/hr so that comes out to around 1500-2500. yikes

Re: Rocker panel / can corner repair estimate??

if that estimate is without seeing the truck it is a basic noestimate just a thrown out random number

if you have the truck and can drive it it is alot better with these old trucks to drive them in so you can get a real accurate estimate for repairs

Oh I definitely agree, I was just trying to get a ballpark at what it might cost if I did buy the truck. It needs new doors also.

If you could get the truck to North GA I would make you a good deal on the repairs.

Replacement isn't really as bad as it looks if you want to give it a whiz. Now first off, I ain't no bodyman, however, I am like you short on cash, so what the hay, I'll give it a whiz. There is a 3 part video on Youtube of a guy replacing some. I watched it 5 times and decided to brave it. Bought my pieces from LMC and here's my very first try on rocker panels & cab corners.....

Took me a whole day to do 1 side, but I sure am happy with it for a noob. Now Chip Foose will start hollering "BUTCHER!!" if he saw it, but, at least I have cab corners and a rocker panel now!!

Re: Rocker panel / can corner repair estimate??

in order...

There are a ton of rocker / cab corner videos on youtube, just do a search. These 3 is what I watched, and was suprised how much I OVER estimated the difficulty of the job. Now, I ain't gonna lie and say it was a "Gravy Train" job, but I wasn't gonna die from it either. Be patient and take yer time !!

What would you charge to do the cab corners and rocker panels on a 69 Chevrolet Stepside
