Thanks for the compliment. Not sure about the talent and skill part of it, I just like to do things a little different and think outside the box.

A simple shifter will take care of any issue of trying to drive both axles on dry pavement allowing you to shift from 2 wd to 4 hi. You cannot run this set-up in 4lo with the case turned backwards as I have done. The front axle would try to turn twice as fast as the rear axle if you did since the front axle is driven by what is normally the input from the transmission before the gear reduction inside the t-case. I seriousley don't think I'll have any issue. Check out USA6x6 sometime. The set-up they offer for about $3000 uses a gear driven set-up off of the front axle to give drive to the second axle and no possible way to stop the engagement of the second axle. Apparently it works just fine.
Yeah, I forgot about the differences is output speeds with turning the t-case around. I haven't seen a divorced 203 in person, I've seen pictures of them & adds for them being sold on Craigslist.

USA6x6 went outta business? I read lots of bad stuff about there customer service online, but you can hear that for just about any company online.

Re: Cross Member Drop?

Been working a few nights on a little more low buck old school flare for the truck. These valve covers are the old school finned aluminum that I really wanted. My Dad ran this particular set on his 37 Pontiac street rod for the past 30 years. These covers were old enough even back then that he bead blasted them and clear coated them before putting them in that car. I media blasted them again last week to get that 30 year old clear coat off of them and started polishing. Polishing is free it just takes time. I'm really happy with how these are turning out, they actually look better in person. Now just one more to go.

Before and after....

Re: Cross Member Drop?

Slowly. Been working on some "Honey-do" projects the past couple months around the house. Back into bodywork a little on the truck so not alot to show right now. Over the next few weeks I hope to complete the body work and get it in final primer (cab and frontend). Also have to tear down my 4x4 version 700R4 and swap in a 2WD output shaft and tailgousing then put it back together. Once that's done it will be about ready to stick the motor in it for good and finish out the drivetrain.

Thanks for the nudge, I need it sometimes.

Re: Cross Member Drop?

Im kinda catching the end of this build. But why did you cut the floor out instead of droppin the engine mounts? I am getting geared up to do this on my 64 and use stock susp. Already seen it done on a friends truck and it worked out great. He cut a set of mounts down to lower the engine the same amount as the notch and it worked out great.

Re: Cross Member Drop?

when you notch your cross-member the engine stays in the same place...if you Z the frame it moves everything up

Re: Cross Member Drop?

I gathered that. Why didn't you keep the motor mounts at the same height?

Re: Cross Member Drop?

Figure I better update before this thread drops off the radar. Still muddleing thru the body work. I've been making myself work even an hour a month on it, but I'm finally nearing the end. Almost to final primer stage on the cab, doors, front end, etc. Won't be long now I hope.

I scored a complete serpentine belt set-up and accessories off of an 84 Camaro. This give me PS, high output Alt, A/C, etc in a nice clean modern package and best of all it was FREE!!. So I pulled out my York compressor and started looking for a serp pulley for it. Too much money to buy new so I looked at other options. I ended up taking the smog pump pulley (from the Camaro set-up) and it happens to be almost the same size as the York V-belt pulley. Took it to my Dad's lathe and cut the outer ring off of the spare serpentine pullley, then turned down the OD of the V-belt York pully so the serp outer ring would slip on it and welded them together. Took 30 minutes, worked like a charm and saved me even more money. Luckily both pulleys where nice heavy solid units and not the cheap sheet metal pulleys. Made me some homemade mounts and the York now resides on the front of my motor awaiting a new longer belt.

With any luck, in two weeks I hope to order the sheet metal for bed sides and rear fender extension pieces so we can really see what this thing is going to look like for real.

Can you post some pics of this, I've been thinking about doing something similar.

LOL... I'd be glad to post some pics if I could find where my wife hid the camera. It's never in the same place twice, so I can never find it.
