Looks can be deceiving. The front of the member also has to be clearanced as well as the steering parts move up to. Look at a stock piece vs these pics.

Phantom, have you got it bolted in yet? What about your header clearance vs. steering shaft angle from the rack?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I have not got it in yet. Also after I do get it in Im sure that it wil be awhile before I get the motor in. Bill Turner says that it is not a issue. I will find out!! Currently I a working on getting the 4 link bolted up. See bolting up 4 link in the suspension section.

I looked @ the pics of the top bars. Do the bottom bars bolt in @ the stock leaf hangers??

Once you get the back all together, take somemore pics.....

Yes the inside top bars bolt to the same brackets for the outside factory leaf spring mount. The bottom bars for the 4 link then bolt to the rearend axle tube. The brackets were not alot of fun to drill the rivets out!!!

OK you've really peaked my interest. I'm looking at either moving my steering box up or going rack and pinion.

Can someone post Turners phone number?

I need to talk to him about going power steering. I'm also concerned about my BBC. Will my truck be too heavy for that set up?

In the 2nd to the last pic, what's the 'notch' w/the 2 holes on both sides? They look like the factory holes for the lower control arm shafts.

Oopps.... you were still posting pics. 5th from last pic is the one.

That is where the bracket for the lower control arms bolt in. If you look at some of the earlier pics in this series you will see a pic of the member on its side with the brackets bolted in.

ok i know it's most likely in this thread somewhere, but i'll just ask, it'll be easyer for me HAHA, first of all what year frame is that, for what truck? How much drop is on your cross member 1.5"? I have an '87 sierra classic and was wondering if i could raise my front cross member using oem a-arm's. How much drop could i go b4 i need to start changing steering parts? Could i do a 2" drop and still use my factory steering? I have looked at my truck a little, but need to look more. I really wanna do this to my truck soon, but i don't wanna have to rip my block and **** all out, so would it be best to wait till i rebuild my engine compartment??? thanks fo ne and all info u can provide!, nice piks btw, looking SWEET! cheers

The frame is a 83 . You can use the member with the stock arms. The arms only look better and offer you a little more ground clearance. I would do it all at one time. This is a lengthy project so have another vehicle to drive.

In pic 5, it shows a notch and a couple of holes in the Lower/Bottom part of the crossmember. I know I missed something, but what are they for?
