Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The power steering pitman arm will bolt up to a '63-'70 draglink. I do not know about any earlier years.

captainFab,

is it just me or does that tube and flange seem to be smaller and not fit over my existing steering column? or was i supposed to receive a different tube and flange?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I currently make only one tube and flange. If the one you received from me does not fit the steering column shaft, you do not have an original '63-'66 steering column. If you post a pic, I can may be able to tell you what steering column you have.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

What bracket are people using from the PS pump to the motor. I have the pump brackets minus the one to the motor. I got my parts from an 83 c10 and I didnt get the pump bracket to the motor. I never see any talk about fitting the pump to the motor..

And also I got the steering shaft from the 83 C10 as well. Will any mods need to be made like discussed previously about shortening the originial? Or is it better to use original with the mods? TIA ~Bryan

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

There are many variables to that question. It will depend on what engine you have. Do you have a 230/250 I6, A 292 I6, A small block? If small block do you have the correct short water pump or do you have one of the variations of the long water pump? Or do you have a big block? There again, short water pump or long water pump.

As for using the '83 intermediate steering column shaft, many guys do to gain the feature of the slip in the shaft in the event of a collision.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Your welcome for the bracket, I appreciate the purchase.

An '89 350 is not a Vortec engine. It is simply a TBI 350 with swirl port heads. The Vortec 350 was used from '96-'02 only.

With a small block that has accessory bolt hole heads and a short water pump I would recommend brackets and pulleys from a '72 and earlier truck or a '68 and earlier car. Personally I prefer the '68-'72 truck brackets for both the alternator and power steering pump.

I was told the motor came out of an 89 Trans Am. But it does have vortec heads. It has the 2 bolts in the center of the valve cover. Again that is what I was told on those heads with the VC bolts in the center. But thanks for the advice on the bracket.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

You have been misinformed. Not all heads with centerbolt valve covers are Vortec heads. All small block heads from '87-'02 utilize centerbolt valve covers. As I said previously, the Vortec small block was produced from '96-'02 only. If your engine is indeed from a '89 Trans Am it is a TPI engine, either a 305 or a 350
