70-67 questions

Hello to all. I just scored a 70 roller. The body is very rough and the motor/trans are gone. It does have dropped spindles, power discs and power steering. My question is, do these parts bolt on to my 67?

Paid for it with $$ made from recycling bottles and cans. Oregon pays .05 per can/bottle. Now doing restification with recycled parts purchased with recycling $$.

yes the whole frontend will bolt in or if you just want to put the spindles and power stering in you will have to use 71-72 ball joint's. just use the Whole steering assembely and it will bolt in

King...why would he need 71/72 ball joints for a 70 front end?

I was wondering the same thing. I am planning to get a poly graphite rebuild kit for the front end when I do this. Will put on the power brakes, power steering rebuild it and do the rear at the same time, a very busy three day weekend..lol

Good Question, when I read power disc brake's i just assumed that some one allready converted it to disc. just to be clear you have drumes on the front now and you want to put roters on the front???

The way I understand it, the 70 front end has disc brakes......if its factory 71-72 pcs, it will need the 71-72 balljoints, center link, tierods, ect. the 73 up pcs will also fit(different top ball joint,& outer tierod end).......or were the spindles aftermarket bolt on pcs for the 70? That would be the first thing to check......crazyL

I didn't even notice the word disc in there....I thought the drop spindles was what he was after...either way, need to find out what you have under that 70.

ok, to clear it all up. The 67 I am driving has four wheel drums. Nice for the purist but I prefer the reliability. The roller has power disc/drum and has been modified with drop spindles and is dropped 5 inches in the back it also has power steering. What I want to do is take the power steering, the disc brakes, dropped spindles and put them on my 67. i'll drop the back three inches to level things out.

Being that we don't know if it is a conversion kit for a 70, or just a dropped spindle for a 71/72 and the rest of the parts swapped out, i would say swap all of it out out one for the other....basicly like King was saying up there to begin with.

probably the easiest / no confusion way would be to swap the complete crossmember assy under your truck......that way you dont have to try to guess what yr the spindles are from. Good luck, crazyL

Cool Just asking?

Why not think about swaping body parts and motor, trans. to the 70 frame. You would have to only do minor work in pulling motor trans together and then swap front sheet metal. I know this sounds like alot of work, but myself I can handle the sheet metal transfer and motor, trans before I could the under carriage, and all the stuff with the disc to drums swap.
You could even take the whole 67 body and swap out with the 70 couldn't you?

OK enough just wanted to see what you thought about it?

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Okay guys, regardless of what approach he takes, he needs to know about the spindles. Things do wear out. He needs to know what they are in order to buy replacement parts in the years to come. Once he knows this, we can tell him the best approach.

BTW, there are no parts on the frontend of a 67 - 72 truck that can be replaced with a Polygraphite kit (excluding a roll bar bushing). The control arm bushings are steel and you can get as good or better quality ball joints and tie rod ends at you local shop.

Check out this post for some information on finding out. First thing I'd do is rule out 1 inch rotors. If it's these, then you know it's in the '73-87 range. Otherwise, you have to find out between the 71-72 or 73-87 years. If they are actually a aftermarket setup manufactured for the '70 (such as those sold by ECE) that use the stock components for that year model (actually 67 - 70) then you would just buy replacement parts for you year model. Pulling the parts (if you can't find a stamping like CPP does) and taking to the parts house is going to be the most reliable approach.

One other thing, you will also need to swap all the steering components (especially pitman arm and drag link). And don't toss anything for a while after making the swap. Just in case you need to go back and compare to make sure you got everything.
