Re: it just won't turn over

if it doesn't crank, all the gas in the world will not help. If you know the battery is good, check the connections at the battery and the starter. Do you hear any clicks or anything at all. Do you have a DMM? If not, you should buy one. It can make electrical troubleshooting much easier.

Re: it just won't turn over

What do you mean it tries to crank? Will the engine turn over when you turn the key? Or will it do nothing when you turn the key?

Re: it just won't turn over

not turn over means that the engine does not rotate

or do you mean the engine turns over and does not start

I took a plug wire off and saw spark. It has fuel, and as for air it's cold as all get out here.

Re: it just won't turn over

if you have points check them and make sure there is a good spark. keep it simple air fuel and spark if it just ran the other day it should be close to running again I would think.

Re: it just won't turn over

Are you getting 12 Volts to the Dist? What color is the spark? Blue or orange?

Re: it just won't turn over

How would I check to see if the distributer was getting 12 volts? My boss said it probably just had moisture in the distributer cap, any thoughts?

Re: it just won't turn over

if you have points i'd clean and gap them to proper specs// .019gap or dwell of 28-32degrees

Re: it just won't turn over

The previous owner converted it to electronic ignition. Ignition is definitely not my thing.... YET

Re: it just won't turn over

Did it run before the electronic ignition was installed?

If not, then make sure it is clocked correctly and the plug wires are in the proper firing order. Everyone does this differently it seems, but for me I make sure the engine is at TDC compression stroke. Then pop the distributor cap, the rotor terminal should point to the #1 cylinder and the cap terminal that the #1 wire is plugged onto.

If it ran and drove fine after the electronic distributor was installed, what if anything has changed since then?

Power brakes? If so, check the power booster hose to the intake manifold. If it has come off or cracked open, it will be a huge vacuum leak that can hinder a cold start. No power brakes? make sure the intake bung used for the booster is properly capped off, this includes some carburetors that will have a large opening for this vacuum source.

What kind of carburetor?
Choke hooked up?
Do you see fuel squirting from the carb jets?

Re: it just won't turn over

if it has air-fuel-spark, I would hold the gas peddle down to the floor for a couple of minutes, leave it there while you are turning it over. Maybe you're flooding out the carb.

Re: it just won't turn over

I'm going to mention something many look over.
Take the module out of the HEI and take it to Autozone and have them test it. I bet it's went out on you.
Take the coil with you and have them test it.

To check the chain just pull the dist and turn it over. If the dizzy is turning then the cam is turning and the chain is turning it. It may be out of time. Check that.
It sounds to me like it may be a Fire issue so keep looking there.
To check for 12V at the dizzy pull the wire to it and put a voltmeter on it with the key in the ON position.

Re: it just won't turn over

I tried holding the gas down for a while.
I just got back from having the module tested.
I'm checking the coil now.
it acts kinda of like one cylinder fires but none of the others...
So cap and rotor maybe?
