gearing question?

what's the rpm range for an 350 small block?
here's my setup 350,th400, 4.10' and 36" tires.
my RPM is 2487 at 65mph acording to this gear caculator http://www.florida4x4.com/tech/gearcalc.php

I would like to regear to 4.56' for better bit on the trails. but I don't want to kill the engine, if I'm reving the engine to high. with 4.56's it would be 2766rpm at 65mph.

i run 4:56 gears in mine and i know its not a very good highway driver. i took a 300 mile trip in it and bout the fastest i felt ok with was 65. most ive had it up to was 70. i love my 4:56 gears but definitely not a highway driver. max rpm is somewhere around 5500 rpm depending on how you got it built.

ran my uncles truck at 3000 rpms for 6 hours straight last weekend, never hiccuped at all. his is also a stock 350 TBI, and we were pulling a 94 Firebird on a 3000# trailer. you should be fine with 4.56s with your 36s. why do you need to go over 65 in a lifted truck anyways? IMHO, if you want even more gear, swap to a manual trans. a SM465 has a 6.55:1 1st gear, where your TH400 has a 2.52 IIRC. an NV4500 would give you the best of both worlds, overdrive and a lower 1st gear

I really don't want to go to manuel. I like my auto. the only time my rig get's on the highway is to get to the trails. so the engine should be fine turning 2766 rpm's at 65 mph on the highway. umm maybe I could get away with 4.88's I would be turning 2961 rpm at 65mph.
