I got a sbc 327 with a project i bought and was told it was a factory 300hp 1964 out of the Tonawanda NY plant. I got some numbers off the rear of the block (near where the tranny mounts up. Can i verify what i was told by any of these numbers?

Re: SBC 327 history

Your casting number 3858180 shows it’s a 64-67 327.

http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

You’ll need the suffix code off the pad in front of the passenger side head to narrow it down.

Its T05I9S. And I can’t find anything with a 9S suffix code...I was told originally this is a 327/300 motor that was built in the Tonawanda plant when the Flint plant went on strike in 64 and its out of an impala...unless I’m looking in the wrong places, I can’t find any suffix codes close to what I have...of course...lol

S——look here.
It says 1962 327.
Look a little closer to see if there’s another letter after the ‘S’.
Sometimes all the info from different sources doesn’t match.

Re: SBC 327 history

NastyZ28 is my go to for engine and parts decoding. Mortec is just too broad, where NastyZ28 has a bit more info.

But the casting number 3858180 says 64-67 327....??

Did they sometimes use an i instead of a 1 as its clearly an upper case I as well

Re: SBC 327 history

180 casting..... with a casting date of april 30 1964....

T0519S = may 19 1964

so with the suffix code of S.....(you need another letter). "SL" maybe.....

Clean the area on the block real good where you got T0519S and take a pic of it and post it. Thanks.

Re: SBC 327 history

the block casting date D3064 (4-30-64) is fine for a may 19 build. Not having the org heads and intake it's just a non stock engine.

Going back to your very first post:
with the information you are providing, there is NO WAY to agree with the 300HP 327 information you were told....GOOD LUCK !!!!!!! Did your camera break just after you took the first pic....

Take the paint off and take a pic and post it.....
