indeed it would. i just sold one similar in style to that. got a 74 Jimmy coming in this weekend to build up. That one provides some nice inspiration.

they turn up but the 73-75s are rare... A body with no drivetrain or running gear just complete body and bare frame sold on craigslist about 3 months ago for $300 bux. I know it will look great when your done.. I gotta give you a pat on the back for tackling that much rust. GOOD JOB and keep it up.

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green

so you know that they are rare.... im doing a bunch of extra reinforcing to make it less likely to flex and make the doors fenders etc not fit or close right... it is a TON of work esp. when they dont make a ton of parts for this series...

You are a lot braver than I am when it comes to the metal work. After attempting one cab corner I chickened out and sent it to a pro to do the rest of my metal. I am jealous.

its a lil surface rusty and a couple minor dents but its a solid replacement paenl...got it and a brand new chineeze tailgate in the box for 100 bux.. so now i remove my spot welds on the lip and bolt on a rot free panel pull a coule minor dents and have a nicer quarter

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green

ok time for an update... the day after i installed the blue 1/4 i went to my local bone yard and my buddy there says hey Dan.. I found that other new 1/4 you were looking for last winter... and there it was on the outdoor shelf a few lil dents and surface rust.... but there it was.... I scored it and a repop tailgate in the box for $100 total...
NICE! tonight I located a swing away spare assembly ..hope its till available and can get it...
anyhow i spent friday D/A ing the surface rust off.and etch priming the quarter..
test fit it to find that the lower seems to be a hair shorter that an OE one but ill make it work...
re-adjusted the torque box mount i fabricated... did some detail work on the extension between the B pillar and the back ( made a new piece to seal off the rocker innard from the elements) slopped some POR15 and mounted the quarter...this weekend im gonna cut down an aftermarket door (rust n rot free for $50 bux) and mount it D/A it and etch prime it then all i will have left is to make the plate to replace the rotted out torque box (or rocker box as some call it) and the drivers side half will be all rebuilt with rust free steel! will have to fit the replacement door to fit a lil better than the old one which i hung quick to seal off the open door... making progress! LOL
pics below...

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green

Friday was Door transplant day i removed then stripped original door for all of its hardware including a couple items that make it unique to a full removeable top K5 door. measured the cut the original door... then installed it final tweaking to follow below the donor and the piece in the top of the cut by the handle that makes it a blazer door..this piece holds the cap that finished off the door top and offers better support for the handle area

and one of the "patched" inner fender that has some rot starting under the re-inforcing panel.. final sealing accomplished with a lil roofing cement.. LOL

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green

Looks great. Question about the Por15. How are you applying it? Are you following their step-by-step instructions with the cleaner and other products or are you just applying it to the bare metal? I have had success with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator because you just have to wire brush the rust and then paint over it. The product chemically bonds with the rust and stops it in its tracks. Used in on the floor of my '79 K5 and the rust never went anywhere after that.

As far as your winters go, down here in South Texas this is the time to start. Summers are blistering and the cooler fall/winter weather really helps, so now is the time.

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green

yeah well its cold and snowing here in a couple months
as far as the POR i clean the surface wire brush or scuff it and it sticks like crazy... it sounds similar to the eastwood stuff you use.
I dont plan on driving it in the salt or winter so it should be good to go

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green

OK you all will think I am nuts.... but I just bought the tub pictured in post #51... yeah i spent all summer working on the drivers side... but i couldnt refuse the price for the rot and rust free original underside rock solid 73 tub with front clip...
the guy is going to use the frame and drivetrain for a 50 willys overland.... I cant wait to go pic this up then ill have to wait all winter before i can set it on my 74 chassis... but when its dont ill have NO more welding or patching justfitment and paint prep
then it gets color.... with luck it will be on the road before June 2011!!!! the truck was originally silver...so now i have to decide what color the tub is straight and is flat black so it might be black with the cheyenne trim..... maybe silver in the center... or green... or candy tangerine.....who knows just incase u wanna see it..here it is in july...it ended up in another part of NY but it soon will be in my garage on a cart...
