Shift Indicater Help

I have a 2002 2500HD with the Alison trany. Yesterday I noticed the shift indicator is working sporadically. It will light up on R, 3, 1 and, sometimes on P. The trany seems to be working properly in all gears but I have to count the clicks to make sure I am in the right gear. Also because it only works some times in P the locks don't unlock when you put it in Park. Last night I was parked with the engine running and the Park indicator was working then all of a sudden it went out. We have had a lot of snow the past few weeks and I was wondering if there was a electrical connection on the trany that may have been disturbed? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Shift Indicater Help

Well now the trany will not shift into OD and makes a clunk when putting it into gear.

Re: Shift Indicater Help

the transducer on the side of the trans where the shift lever hooks to the trans is bad. I had ignored mine and it would occasionally not start- apparently thinking I was tring to start in gear!

Re: Shift Indicater Help

The shift indicator or as it's commonly called up here the "PRNDL SWITCH" is causing you troubles. Mounted to the side of the tranny.

I replaced the prndl switch and all is good. Boy GM is mighty proud of that part....226.00 for a plastic switch....I think instead of getting better these trucks are going backwards. All this computer electronic carp sucks....
